Theoretical Framework for Advanced Nursing Practice
You have spent six weeks learning about nursing theories. These things show “how” we do our jobs as nurses. This week, we move up to a higher level of thinking and look at the “why” behind what we do. Give an example of your own nursing philosophy.
Use what you’ve learned in the course and learn more about the nursing philosophy literature. Fawcett was not a nursing theorist, but she is a nursing philosopher, and her book Metaparadigm of Nursing puts philosophy before theory. Once you’ve talked about your philosophy, find a theoretical framework (not the theories in the middle, but the assumptions that framework is based on) that fits your philosophy.
Compare and contrast your philosophy with the framework you’ve chosen. Describe a situation in which the framework might clash with your philosophy or not work with it. It’s important to be able to match a theory to a situation, but it’s also important to know when a theory or framework doesn’t work.
