Strong Central Government

Washington is supposed to have greater power to dictate national policy and this is because the central government normally speaks and acts for the whole of the country in its dealing and relations with the foreign government. The sole holder of the national government is the national government and it is only the national government that can operate as the government of an independent political community. It is the national constitution that provides the central government with control over matters of concern to the whole country and it also allows the political communities to regulate the matters of more local concern.

The federal government together with the states is considered to be supreme in their own spheres of power even though there exist a considerable overlap (Kearney &Bowman, 2011).The state can not be able to make law which surpasses the federal government. In areas which are concerned with education and health the federal government is supposed to have a greater power of force than the local government and this is because the local government can be easily influenced by local customs like the belief and desire in slavery by the southern states. It is because of the force from the federal government that slavery is illegal in some states.

The federal government uses the states to lead in the power of the central government and the opposite is true. The federal government can override the state policies if the constitution grants the federal government the authority of legislating in an area. If the federal government is not granted authority by the constitution to legislate in an area, then the state law can trump in that area. I would not entrust more power to Washington DC than to the state and this is because the state is supposed to have greater power as the people are supposed to determine what they want their government to be responsible of.

The people should decide if they want unemployment insurance. More people are likely to be interested in schools if this people have more power as to what is being taught there. The states should be allowed to interpret laws and policies and also make amendments and changes with reasons to the policies and laws that will better suit the citizens of this particular states and areas. The different states are supposed to obey the laws and policies but also there should be room for adaptation within the individual states (Kearney &Bowman, 2011).

The state and the local government are equipped in handling the current public policy challenges. They have the expertise needed in handling the issues which may have national implications than the Washington.  The state and local   governments have been able to implement a wide range of policies including transportation policy, crime prevention policies and domestic policy. The state and local government have been able o reduce the rate of crime and improve the wellbeing of the residents. The local and state government has implemented community policing to reduce the crime rate by ensuing law enforcer’s work together with the residents to implement policies. Additionally, they have improved transportation and the economic conditions (Kearney &Bowman, 2011).
