rel212 week 8 discussion

Question description

In this week’s discussion, we will be examining Islam in light of recent attacks in Paris and Brussels, since Islam and its radical factions are on everyone’s mind.

The class will be split into teams by alphabet. Each team member will make an initial pin, and then make their response to members of the other team.

Teams will be broken up as follows:

Team A: last names from A-K.

Team A scenario: (THIS ONE)

There are extremists in every religion, but why have the Islamic fundamentalists become such a powerful force in the 21 st century? There are a number of factors from historical precedents in the example of Muhammed as described in the Koran and the Hadith; to the conflict between apocalyptic followers of the 12th Imaam who are trying to hasten the end of the world by killing as many unbelievers as possible, and the modernizers in Islam who just want to practice their religion in a more modern, reformed manner, adapting to Western and modern ways moderately.

See the following links to aid your understanding. Note: not all the sources are of equal value and it is up to you to determine if they are academically useful or not. You do not want to be caught citing a less than credible source.
