Pathophysiology: Patient Resources for Health Information

Your initial discussion thread is due on Day 3 (Thursday) and you have until Day 7 (Monday) to respond to your classmates. Your grade will reflect both the quality of your initial post and the depth of your responses. Refer to the Discussion Forum Grading Rubric under the Settings icon above for guidance on how your discussion will be evaluated.

Identify the drug and at least two diseases and conditions for which the drug can be part of the treatment plan.Today’s patient and family members rely on health information from sources other than their provider.  In Week One, Discussion 2, you identified several top drugs. Select one of the drugs, and:

  • Identify a facility within 100 miles of your home that provides information on its website for one of the diseases or conditions. Summarize the types of information the facility provides to the public regarding this disease or condition.
  • Identify an organization or professional entity whose website provides patient information regarding one of the diseases or conditions. Summarize the types of information the organization or professional entity provides to the public regarding this disease or condition.
  • In your own words, compare and contrast the differences between the sites.
    • Did they provide the same or different types of information about the disease or condition?
    • Did the information from the two sources contradict each other at all?
  • If you were diagnosed with the disease or condition, what websites would you look to for additional information, and why?

Guided Response: Your initial post should be a minimum of 250-300 words. After reading your fellow classmates posts, respond to at least two of your peers by Day 7. ask and answer a follow-up question to two diseases or conditions, other than your own. Your minimally required three posts must be on three different days of the week. Cite and reference all sources in APA format as outlined by the Ashford University Writing Center. (Your textbook cannot be one of the two required sources.)
