You will then be using library resources to find a health-related research article and upload it to My courses. You will review your peers’ articles and choose one article from all of the articles that you will critique and identify the criteria that you used for the evaluation based on the tool. 2nd Assignment:

· Question: for this assignment put a nurse and other professions from you mind life Physician Assistant, Physician, patient … etc

· Write a short skit that documents a professional interaction between  a Healthcare attorney and Health Administration personnel and another person.  Alternate option – Use any 2 healthcare professionals and their interaction with a third party i.e. insurance company, patient, sales representative,  community service organization etc. Use the skit to document your knowledge about some aspect of these professions.

· Here are two examples of the skit:

1. Nurse: Hello, Ms. Lewis, I’m going to get your vitals and ask you a few questions, is that okay?

Patient: Yes, sir.

*checks vitals*

Nurse: Your vitals look good. Are you still taking your birth control pills?

Patient: Yes, but I think I may need to change them. I’ve been spotting for a few weeks now.

Nurse: Okay, I will let the doctor know. She’ll be able to provide you with more information

Doctor: Hello, Ms. Lewis. How are you feeling today?

Patient: Hello, Dr. Johnson. I’m doing good.

Doctor: That’s good. The nurse told me that you’ve been thinking about changing your birth control pills and that you’ve been spotting for a few weeks

Patient: Yes. I don’t know why it’s happening because I take the pills like I’m instructed to.

Doctor: Have you started taking supplements?

Patient: Yes, my friend suggested I try St. John’s Wort since I was having issues sleeping.

Doctor: St. John’s Wort can decrease the effectiveness of birth control

Patient: Oh, I didn’t know that

Doctor: Having you been taking St. John’s Wort every day for the past few weeks?

Patient: Yes

Doctor: Okay, I want you to begin to stop taking them slowly. Instead of taking it every day, take one every other day, then every couple days, then once a week, then you can stop them completely. I don’t want you to have any withdrawal effects that’s why you will have to slowly stop taking them

Patient: Okay

Doctor: I’ll give written instructions as well. Is there a chance you could be pregnant?

Patient: Yes

Doctor: Okay, I’ll send the nurse to get a urine sample, so we can test to see if you’re pregnant

Patient: Okay

Doctor: You said you were having difficulties sleeping?

Patient: Yes, I have had a change in my schedule, so it was just taking me awhile to adjust and the St. John’s Wort was helping so I don’t know what to do now.

Doctor: Once you start tampering down the St. John’s Wort, the sleep issue will start to occur again. It would be best to start scheduling a bedtime. If that doesn’t work, we can try medication.

Patient: Okay, I will try

Doctor: Is there anything else I can help you with?

Patient: No, that’s it.

Doctor: Okay, I’ll send the nurse in. You have a nice day, see you next time.

*knock on the door*

Nurse: The doctor asked me to get a urine sample, you can follow me

Patient: Okay

Nurse: Once you’re done, leave the sample on the table and you can go back to the room

Patient: Okay, thank you.

2. Nurse: How are we doing today, Mrs. Kennedy? Are we ready for today’s procedure?

Patient: As ready as I’ll ever be I suppose.

Nurse: I can assure you that everything will be fine. We’ve done this surgery plenty of times and all has gone well.

Patient: I’ll take your word for it. How long will the procedure take?

Nurse: It should only take about an hour or and hour and a half. Then you’ll wake up feeling like a whole new person.

-surgeon walks in-

Surgeon: Is everybody ready?

Nurse: We’re about to be.

Surgeon: Are you feeling good today Mrs. Kennedy? We’re going to take good care of you.

Patient: I’m feeling alright. I’m ready to get this overwith. I’m in your capable hands.

Surgeon: That’s what I like to hear, I’ll see you soon Mrs. Kennedy.

Nurse: Let’s get you prepped and soon you’ll feel so much better.

Patient: Let’s do it.

3rd Assignment:

· Question: please act as if you were familiar with the class.

3 Based on what we have learned in class. When deciding on a career path, what are some of the more important aspects of the job you should consider? What aspects of your own personality make you well suited or not to pursue a career in the health field

1st example :

The most important aspect I learned is that everything has a policy. No matter in which part of health care you are working, the policy will always have an effect on it. Changes are made on a daily basis that impacts a patient’s access to care. Physicians have to take these changes, even though this means a big changeover in their way of working, earning money, and treating their patients.

For me personally, with the plan of becoming a doctor, I noticed again how long education is. It became even more clear to me that even if you graduated from medical school you are still not done with learning and practicing. As a doctor, learning is a big part of your job, actually, you will be never done with it. Also, the fact that being a doctor comes with a high level of stress became more important to me. That means for example working in emergency rooms, being on call, or work during the night shift. Furthermore, I learned about possible alternatives for my career path, especially the profession of a physician assistant was new for me and also really interesting.

I believe that I am an open-minded and interested person, also I am willing to learn and to put the right amount of effort into things that I want to achieve. Since the way of becoming a doctor is a long one, I think it is important to be ambitious and to never forget your reason for doing it. I also think that being interested and willing to learn new things is relevant since the job of being a doctor means that you will never stop learning.

Especially after doing the HHS course I realized even more how important it is to have an open and understanding mindset. A patient wants to be seen as an individual and wants to be understood in the right way. I am confident that I have a good understanding for individuals and that I am able to treat them in the right way. However what could be kind of difficult for me is being able to view them as an individual while still maintaining a boundary and not forming a personal bond or relationship due to the fact that that could cloud my judgment.

2nd Example:

When deciding on a career path I think it is important to consider aspects such as the degree you need to achieve and the types of licensing. I also think you need too consider the type of environment you want to work in and how it matches your personality. I also think it is very important to find something you enjoy doing, you don’t want to spend your life doing something that makes you miserable. In regards to my personality, I think my outgoing and caring nature will be useful in the healthcare field. I like to help and communicate with others.

3rd example:

It is very complicated for me at this point in my life to choose just ONE career. We’ve been exposed to so many different professions and career paths the semester, that I guess it is safe to say that I am a bit conflicted as to what I want to do. But, despite being conflicted, I think it is important to note that no matter what  healthcare career I choose, the lives of people and their families will forever be in my hands and it is up to me to make sure that I learn all that I can learn to ensure that I perform the duties of my job to the best of my ability. In regards to my personality, I think it is important to have a warm and caring spirit, a very attentive demeanor, and the ability to separate myself from work and home. Im pretty sure, as a healthcare professional, very complicated and tough situations will be faced, and with that being said, you have to ensure that you watch yourself in your opinions, personal beliefs, and emotions.
