Medigap

According to Hiller and Barrow (2010), in their article Aging, the Individual and Society, the Medigap policies provide care for the old people. This care is provided by both the young and the old each of whom has a set obligations aimed at promoting life for the old. In their chapter for the Oldest-old and Care giving, Hiller and Baron (2010) outlines the means of care giving into several categories some of which are, women changing their roles to fit in the schedule of taking care of the old through feeding them, washing them, and nursing them when sick. This care is given in so many forms some of which are spousal care which involves on half taking care of the other half for married couples or use of adult children care to perform this duties among others that include those of spending time with them sharing their experiences as well as learning from them.

This solves a lot of problems like stress, loneliness, or other Psychological disorder. This is a very crucial step as it goes a long way in the sharing and changing intergenerational relationships which carry with them the past experiences along with the adult children to other generations. From medigap, the insurance policies in the state of Maryland the policies have been classified according to various categories, some of which are the basic benefits, skilled nursing facilities and at most, and at home recovery programs (medicare.gov 2011). Despite the many benefits, Medigap provides health insurance services to the old that is, for those above 65 years, people under the age of 65 with certain disabilities, people of any age, parents, children, or grand children, with the End of Stage Renal Disease. In addition, different parts of medigap help provides specific services which include Hospital insurance, the medical insurance, and one that covers the Medicare prescription Drug Coverage (medicare.gov 2011).

The Medical insurance helps the doctors cover their services, as well as the hospitals’ outpatient care and the domestic health care. In addition, it covers some preventive services to help maintain people’s health and stop the worsening of certain illnesses. The Hospital Insurance on its own assist in covering the care of hospitals inpatients as well as meeting the skilled nursing facility, domestic health care and the sanatorium (medicare.gov 2011). Lastly but not least, the Medicare Prescription Drug Coverage this is an option for drug prescription operated by private insurance companies that have been approved by Medicare. The major task is to help the patients in covering the costs incurred in prescription drugs as well as participating in lowering the cost of prescript drugs and protection against future higher costs.

As far as the plans available in my area are concerned, the insurance policies provided in my area will go a long way in the promoting healthcare since, the costs of prescription drugs and outpatient and inpatient services have been subsidized to a level that I believe is manageable by most individuals in the state (medicare.gov 2011). As far as prevention of certain diseases goes, this means that the life spans o people will be increased and where such diseases affect the young people, I believe it will help them have a sense of belonging and provide motivation for life.

Obtaining information about medigap was not that easy but with the help of the resource gets your Medicare Questions answered in the website, I explored it and it was of significant help.
