Legal issues surrounding genetic tests for a variety of conditions

Technology and scientific advancements open the door to a plethora of genetic tests for a variety of conditions. However, ethical standards have not necessarily been established to guide health organizations in offering genetic testing services, in contracting with certain providers of genetic test kits/lab process, and in explaining the results to the patient/consumer. Draw from the readings, outside research and the AHRQ specific list of tests to identify and discuss with your colleagues a specific important issue for health care organizations as they consider their role in genetic testing. Remember the discussions related to standards of care, patient confidentiality, and evidence-based care. Peers are expected to demonstrate critical thinking in their questions related to the classmates’ descriptions. Provide citation of authority to support your initial response to conference questions.
