How to Catch a Fish

Catching a fish for either pleasure or food is a timeless activity. A certain level of skill is needed, and the various tips required depend on the type of fish wanted and the site of fishing. Some of the materials and things needed to catch a fish include appropriate bait, fishing rod and reel, gloves, bucket or stringer, local fishing laws, bobber or float, comfortable clothes and pliers (Frank, 2007)..The first step is to locate the ideal site or location to fish. Some types of fish are found only at specific waters at a specific period.

A fisherman should have knowledge of the schedule for fishing as well as the type of fish desired. Once the appropriate waters have been located, it is preferable to fish under over-head trees and around rocks. This is because fish has a tendency of grouping themselves in the shade (Frank, 2007).The second step is the selection of appropriate bait. It is essential to make use of the right bait to lure a fish. Some of the ideal items to use of baits include locusts, worms and grasshoppers. The fish bait should be checked, and the shops tackled for suppliers.

The bait utilized is the one that determines the type of fish that is lured. It is therefore vital to have knowledge of the appropriate bait to attract the desired type of fish. The third step is baiting the hook. The bait is affixed to the hook. This is a fundamental step since a fish is does not exactly a dumb animal. A fish would ignore bait and a hook that is rather too obvious. It is therefore recommendable to set baits in such a way that they appear as natural as possible. Attempts should be made to hide or disguise the hook.

Perhaps two types of baits could be used (Frank, 2007).The fourth step is casting the reel. It is important to make sure that the surrounding area is clear in order to prevent accidents. The button should be pushed and held in the reel. The pole should then be drawn back from behind over the shoulder, and the pole snapped at the end like a whip. The essence of this step is to propel the hook directly into the water. The button is then released as the hook shoots forward into the water. This is a step that requires enough practice in order to attain perfection.

The next step is reeling the fish. The fish should be reeled in with a lot of care in order to avoid losing the catch. The line should be slowly drawn in until it is tight as soon as the bobber jerks. The purpose of this is to secure a hook in the mouth of a fish. The pole should then be drawn back on the fish should then be reeled in. It should not be dragged forcefully but rather the fish should be tired prior to being reeled in completely (Frank, 2007).

The final step is that of unhooking a fish. Gloves should be used to hold the slippery fish, which may be unhooked using either pliers or bare hands. Pliers are much safer for a person and the fish. The sides of a fish head should be squeezed in order to open the mouth. An observation of how the hook is attached should be made followed by unhooking the fish in a gentle manner. The fish is then placed in a bucket of water or a stringer used for large-sized fishes (Frank, 2007).
