Medication research paper in a psychiatric nursing class for ADN nursing program. Please see attached rubric.
The patient can be a theoretical one.
Purpose: The Medication Research paper is to develop research and writing skills in the APA
format. Students will gain knowledge of different psychotropic medications through sharing of
research with the Medication Teaching Project and their peers in post conference.
Criteria
Format
o Topic med: Fluoxetine.
o The body of the paper must be at least 4 pages in length. No abstract is needed.
o APA format (Narrative, not lists)
o Use three (or more) professional resources – websites are acceptable, see APA
format for citation., One professional nursing research journal (within 5 years).
From your research, define the following including discussion of the mental illness:
o Effects on neurotransmitter and receptor sites
o Desired effects (in behavioral terms)
o Side effects and % incidence (priorities only)
o Management of side effects.
Clinical observations: (What you have observed in a patient… ANY client that was on
this medication (even a theoretical one))
o Compare research findings to objective observations of therapeutic effects, as
well as side effects, noted in your client.
o Compare research findings to what client says about therapeutic effects of the
medication and how client manages those side effects that concern client.
