Ethics and Human Service

The ethical obligations and responsibilities of a human service professional are determined by the section one and two of standards for human service professionals as outlined by “National organization for human services.” These are the applicable standards when dealing with colleagues that do not feel obliged to continue with their studies in order to enhance their performance and keep up to date.

Statement 30 requires professionals in the field to continually upgrade their educational development and take part professional associations and research and this cannot be furthered without learning (NOHS, 2011). Statement 31 requires professionals in the field to continually look out for effective and new ways to enhance their professional capability. These are obligations to community and the general citizenry. The professionals also have an obligation to commit themselves to lifelong knowledge acquisition under statement 37 that out lines responsibility to employers (NOHS, 2011).

After realizing that colleagues are not adhering to these standards I am bound by standards on responsibility to society and community under statement 11, 14 and 21 to reveal these failures in the colleagues, I am obliged to represent accurately qualifications to the public (NOHS, 2011). Under the responsibility to colleague’s standards I have an obligation to respond to the behavior which is not concordant with ethical standards by first of all informing the colleagues on their mistakes and unethical behavior.

If there is no resolution that is reached I still have mandate under statement 24 to pursue the matter with my superiors on the same (NOHS, 2011).Conclusively, I have a responsibility to represent the qualification of my colleagues as they should be and a responsibility to live up the stipulated ethics among which such conduct of discouraging enlightenment among members should be exposed and discouraged to foster the growth of the profession for the better of the society at large.
