Creating Cultural Competent Organization

Creating Cultural Competent Organization

A way to understand a culturally competent organization is to assess the organizational culture by using the “five A’s” described in chapter 9. Compare and contrast the availability, accessibility, affordability, acceptability, and appropriateness of the organization. Discuss what actions could be taken by the organization to increase its cultural competency. Next, use a different approach to assess the cultural competency of the organization. Use Leininger’s Theory of Culture Care Diversity and Universality (1991) to assess the culture of the organization. Table 9-6, pages 253 – 255 provide examples of how Leininger’s Culture Care Model can be used. Compare and contrast the values and beliefs of the organization with the values and beliefs of the groups using the health care organization’s services. What areas would be most problematic and why?
The Five A\’s are Transformational leadership, structural empowerment; exemplary professional practice; new knowledge, innovations, and improvements; and empirical outcomes.
