Discussion Five
According to Pender, Murdaugh and Parsons, “evaluation information can be used to improve health promotion programs to produce the more favorable outcomes for clients and communities”(2012). When implementing intervention to affect change in an individual state of health one wants to ensure the interventions are effective. Health promotion evaluations help determine the successfulness of a programs objective (Pender, Murdaugh & Parsons, 2011). It assists in determining a programs strengths, weakness, and future implication of health promotion. “Evaluations also provide information to enable the health care professional to make decisions” (Pender, Murdaugh & Parsons, 2011).

Articles Summary & Projected Evaluation
The research article, A Review of Mental Health and Mental Health Care Disparities analyzes the correlations of mental health disorders and racial and ethnic minorities in the Unites States. This comprehensive review aims to evaluates 615 studies of mental health and mental health care disparities. The research is funded by the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) to provide a benchmark for the 2015 NIMH revised strategic plan”(Cook et al., 2018). After analyzing the data the goal is to link improved mental health treatment options, interventions and support the need of diverse populations.
Processes Evaluation & Outcomes
Process evaluation is defined as, “evaluation of the content of the program and whether it was delivered as intended, where as outcome evaluation focus on the results of the program” (Pender, Murdaugh, and Parsons, 2011). According to the authors the process evaluation was achieved. They were able to review 615 studies, associated with mental health and racial/ethnic disparities. Upon evaluation they identified correlation of the data. For example, “approximately 12% of all reviewed articles (n = 71), discussed attitudes toward mental health care, health beliefs, fear, shame, or stigma among racial/ethnic members as possible modifiable characteristics to reduce disparities” (Cook et al., 2018). The data collected allowed the authors to identify interventions that reduced barriers to treatment for racial/ethnic minorities. It helped identify interventions that were culturally appropriate and educational. Further more, it developed behavior modification programs that actively engage patients to seek help or increase adherence across and within racial/ethnic groups (Cook et al., 2018).
Conclusion
Vulnerable populations such as minorities are at greater risk for disease. Evaluation of health promotion programs for these populations are important on both the community and global level. This article adequate address the health needs of this population for mental health.
